What is going on at your house?
Most calls start with one of these. Tap the one that sounds like yours.
If it is none of them, call (317) 204-8367 and describe it. We will tell you straight whether it needs us.
A few missing tabs is usually a repair, not a new roof. We match the shingle, reseal the row around it, and check the ridge and rakes where wind gets under first. If the whole slope is lifting, we tell you that too.
How we handle roof repairsCall us before you call the adjuster if you can. We get on the roof, photograph the bruised shingles, dented vents and gutters, and give you a written report to hand the insurance company. When the adjuster comes out, we can meet them there.
Storm damage and insurance claimsThe leak is rarely right above the stain. Water runs along the decking before it drips, so we trace it back to the source, which on older south-side houses is most often a failed pipe boot, chimney flashing, or a valley.
Finding and fixing roof leaksWe pull the old siding, fix any soft sheathing underneath, wrap the house, and put up new vinyl or LP SmartSide with fresh trim around the windows and doors. Siding and a new roof often go together after a hailstorm.
Vinyl siding replacementOverflow is usually undersized gutters, too few downspouts, or a sagging run that no longer drains to the outlet. We replace the run, wrap the fascia behind it, and send the water away from the foundation.
Gutters, soffit and fasciaSoft boards mean rot, and rot on the surface usually means the joists and ledger need a look too. We tell you whether it can be re-decked or whether the whole thing should come out and be rebuilt.
Deck replacementEverything on the outside of the house
One crew for the roof, the walls and the yard. When hail takes out the shingles, it usually dents the gutters and cracks the siding on the same afternoon, and we can fix all of it under one estimate.

Nine layers between your attic and the weather
On an addition we start at bare rafters. On a reroof we tear off to the wood and rebuild from the decking up. Either way the layers go on in the same order, and each one answers something Indiana weather does to a roof: wind that gets under the edges, ice that backs up at the eaves, and leaks that start in a valley, at a pipe boot or around a chimney. Most reroofs take us a day or two, and the old roof is hauled away before we leave.
Scroll or slide to put the roof on, one layer at a time.
- RaftersThe frame, with a valley rafter wherever two roof lines meet. On a new roof build we size it for the 115 mph wind and 20 psf snow load Indiana's code lists for Marion and Johnson counties.
- DeckingThe wood every nail goes into. On a tear-off we check every sheet and replace any that is soft or delaminated before anything new goes down.
- Drip edgeMetal on every eave and rake, so water drips clear of the fascia. The 2020 Indiana Residential Code requires it on shingle roofs.
- Ice barrierA self-sealing membrane along the eaves, up the rakes and down the valleys, where ice dams and wind-driven rain push water under the shingles.
- UnderlaymentCovers the rest of the deck, so the wood stays dry under the shingles.
- FlashingFlashing where the roof meets the chimney and walls, and a new boot on every plumbing vent. We replace these instead of reusing them, because on older south-side houses that is where most leaks start.
- ShinglesOwens Corning or CertainTeed, laid in courses from the eave up. Architectural shingles rate about 30 years on the home inspectors' chart, 3-tab about 20.
- VentilationA ridge vent along the peak lets hot, damp attic air out while the soffit vents pull fresh air in. Without that airflow, an attic bakes in summer and frosts over in winter.
- Ridge capCap shingles over the ridge vent and along the gable ridge seal the last seams. Then we clean up the yard and driveway and haul the old roof away.

"It's been a wonderful journey."
That is how our owner, Sam Lynn, sums up the years since he left the big companies he used to work for and started Exteriors Plus. The way we work came out of that: show up when we say, write down what we find, and stand behind it. Sam still runs our company, with Tina Lynn managing it alongside him, so when you call you are talking to the people it belongs to.
We give 10% off to seniors, military veterans and people with disabilities. Just mention it when you call.
