Roofing and siding contractor in Beech Grove

A railroad town of about 14,700 people inside Marion County, with its own mayor, its own permit office, and some of the oldest houses we work on anywhere.

New fascia and soffit on an older brick home, the kind of eave work older houses around Indianapolis need most.

A town the railroad built

Beech Grove was incorporated in 1906, the same years the Big Four Railroad was building a $5 million locomotive shop complex on 640 acres there. Within two years it was being called the largest locomotive hospital in the world. Amtrak still runs the Beech Grove Shops today, on 108 acres with 700,000 square feet under roof.

The town took its name from a grove of beech trees bounded by Alton and Churchman avenues and Sixth and Eighth streets, and some of its streets carry the names of Big Four cities: Albany, Buffalo, Cleveland and Detroit. Main Street got new sidewalks, streetlights and storefront restoration in a 1984 revitalization, and the Beech Grove Tower went up downtown as its landmark.

Why Beech Grove jobs run long

The housing here is older than anywhere else we work, and old houses hide things under the shingles and siding.

Median build year 1968

For the city as a whole, half the houses predate 1968. On a house that age we expect more than one layer of old shingles, fascia that has been painted over rot, and decking that has taken decades of small leaks.

ZIP 46107: 1962

Across the 46107 ZIP the median house is from 1962, the oldest figure among the five towns we cover most. Gutters and downspouts are often the original run, or the second one.

Permits go through Beech Grove, not Indianapolis

Beech Grove is an excluded city under Unigov, so it keeps its own Building Commissioner and permit process. Applications go through the Clerk-Treasurer at 806 Main Street. For a new structure, the city has you get an Improvement Location Permit from the City-County Building in Indianapolis first, then bring it with your plans to Beech Grove City Hall.

The Indianapolis exemption for like-for-like reroofs by a listed contractor is an Indianapolis rule. We do not assume it carries over. For a Beech Grove roof, siding or deck job, we check with the Building Commissioner's office before we schedule the work.
